Cinematic Close-ups: Blue

Krzysztof Kieslowski started his career shooting documentaries and later became associated with the “cinema of moral anxiety” movement   His best known work was the Three Colors trilogy: “Red”, “White” and “Blue”.  First, view this  close-up of a sugar cube from ‘Blue.’ Then, click here to listen to Kieslowski’s explanation of the scene.

In a response, summarize what the director wanted to convey in the close-up of the sugar cube. Then, recall an example of a close-up from another film (your choice) and critique the meaning of the scene in context to the film using rich, cinematic language.  If possible, attach a link to the close-up scene.
